Sitotaw Y. Fantaye is a licensed Professional Engineer in a dozen states and a Principal at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, PLLC (MRCE), a firm he joined in 2005 as a Senior Engineer. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the City University of New York. He is a structural engineer specializing in the analysis and design of deep and shallow foundations for buildings and bridges, underpinning, platforms, waterfront structures, piers, wharfs, floodwalls, and complex support of excavation systems.

His expertise includes internally and externally braced slurry (diaphragm) walls, secant pile walls, soldier pile tremie concrete walls, soil mix walls, deep shafts for tunnel boring machines, temporary shoring towers, cofferdams, and trestles. As a Principal in Charge, he is responsible for schematic designs, directing teams of geotechnical and structural foundation engineers, and participating in the analysis, design, and development of project drawings.

He has authored and co-authored a dozen papers that have been published or presented in major conference proceedings and prominent industry magazines within the geotechnical and foundation engineering community, such as ASCE journals and Met Section conferences, and DFI Deep Foundations Magazine.

Georg Harms Construction

Rob began his journey with George Harms Construction Co., Inc. (GHC) during his teenage years, working as a laborer while on breaks from school. After obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Wesley College, he embarked on his full-time career with GHC in 1994. Over the years, Rob worked his way up the ranks through various roles including, Laborer, Foreman, General Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent and Vice President of Operations—ultimately becoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO). During his tenure, he has contributed to a diverse portfolio of complex projects, ranging in value up to $250 million. Currently, Rob leads the company’s largest project to date, valued at nearly $500 million.

GHC is a privately held, family-owned company founded in 1960 by Rob’s father, George Harms. Today, ownership has successfully transitioned to the second generation, with Rob and his siblings, Kevin and Lauren, owning the majority of the company.  As the eldest sibling and CEO, Rob shoulders the primary leadership role, making critical decisions on project selection, construction methods, staffing, compensation and benefits, and equipment acquisitions. This year, the company proudly celebrates its 65th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its legacy of success and family-driven values.

Much of this success stems from the values instilled by his father, emphasizing that the company’s greatest asset is its employees. Rob’s leadership at GHC furthers that commitment to people and progress. By nurturing talent, improving employees’ quality of life, and leveraging familial values, Rob strives to ensure that the right people and equipment are always available to get the job done and has grown GHC’s workforce from 170 employees to 220 employees with annual revenues totaling roughly $150 million.  As a young professional, Rob graduated from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s prestigious Young Executive Development Program. Recently, he was honored with a second acceptance into the program, providing him another opportunity to expand his expertise and leadership skills.

One of Rob’s standout strengths is his ability to inspire and motivate GHC’s employees, unlocking their individual potential. His firm yet fair leadership style, coupled with his witty sense of humor, has earned him the trust, respect, and admiration of the workforce. Rob also fosters a family like atmosphere within GHC, making sure every employee knows they are an essential and vital part of the team.

Rob’s dedication to the construction industry extends beyond his leadership at GHC. He actively participates in several prominent industry organizations, including the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey, The International Association of Foundation Drilling, and the Deep Foundations Institute and continues GHC’s strong tradition of supporting the Professional Engineer profession.  Rob is proud to be the fourth recipient from GHC to earn the esteemed NJPEC Constructor of the Year Award, following in the footsteps of past honorees Joe Griffin, Ed Nyland, and Tom Hardell. Rob is deeply honored to receive this recognition at this year’s annual Bonhag Dinner.

Despite the demands of managing multi-million-dollar construction projects, Rob prioritizes time to give back to his community. He serves as Chairman of the Board for the Ocean University Medical Center Foundation and as a Trustee for the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation Board.  Rob resides in Wall, New Jersey, with his wife of 27 years, Judy. Together, they are proud parents to three sons—Hunter, 26; Andrew, 24; and Ryan, 23—all of whom work for GHC.
